"Where Are You, Christmas?"
Just like us, Christmas doesn't have to fit 'the mold'. To each Christmas their own!
It may come in the form of packages & bows to some, a trip home to family for others. You & I
For me, heavy lies the presence of Christmas rather than the presents.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not besmirching the act of gift giving (in moderation). I bask in the contentment of devoting my thoughts to another person & trying my best to uplift their day with a gift all their own. I'm also a kid at heart so I love the anticipation of knowing that underneath that bow there's a gift that someone had in mind just for me.
However, the presence of Christmas remains before & after any gift opening session.
The presence of this time of year comes to me in many forms: singing along to the intro song to National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, a Christmas mug's drink to warm the cockles of my heart, my feet clad in cozy socks, letting the glow of Christmas lights wash over me, sending a card to the one who needs it most, placing my favorite decoration on the shelf (a tall & absurdly skinny ceramic Santa), making traditional Italian pizafrit on Christmas morning. It's just not Christmas unless there's pizafrit.
I like to think of Christmas as that feeling of being "full". May you find your fill this season, whatever that may mean to you!
