A Wholehearted Half

Yesterday was an exponentially commemorative day! Mr. A & his brother's birthdays fall 6 months apart on a calendar. So you know what that means.. One man's birthday is another man's half birthday. Can’t keep those brothers apart! Happy Birthday, Mr. G! Hap Birth, Mr. A!

To some, the idea of half birthdays may seem like a childish event. But to me, getting lost in the silliness is part of the appeal. Bottom line is that it’s a chance to celebrate the existence of someone you love. It’s also an excuse to have cake! (Although, I never need an excuse.) Any day of life spent celebrating something (& commemorating it with cake) is a day well spent in my book!

To start the day off on the right 'half', I planned to surprise Mr. A with pancake halves. At the last moment I pondered, “How could I step this up?” Ooo Ooo, I know!

Pac Man pancakes!!! Alright, so it's more than half but I embrace the whimsical moments that life offers up. After a day of wholeheartedly enjoying his “half” day, I had one last trick up my sleeve!
What's a half birthday without two halves of cake making a whole?

In this limited life, we must remember to mark every occasion that's afforded to us. If that means cutting a pancake into a Pac Man, so be it!! Just because we're grown ups doesn't mean we can't be goofy. After all, Satchel Paige begged the question, “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?”

  3. I used a Wilton checkerboard pan set that my mom bought for me. You can find it here! The possibilities are endless as you can use white cake & customize the layers with food coloring (liquid will give you subtle colors & GEL will give you vibrant colors). Happy baking!
